"Panasonic have also released a new home theatre projector with similar specifications to the Epson, however after viewing both we have chosen the Epson as our recommended unit. This is due to the higher contrast ratio the Epson offers, the higher optical zoom, and the fact that Epson actually manufacture the LCD panel for Panasonic resulting in both projectors having the same image base. While the Panasonic is capable of a slightly higher brightness level, it does loose a fair bit a colour accuracy and contrast when doing so."
A step up from its predecessor, the TW700 is shipped with a tweaked version of the company's D5 3LCD engine and an improved Cinema Filter. The former, when paired with an automated dual-iris optics, enables the projector to deliver a two-fold leap in contrast performance of up to 10,000:1. This is adequately matched by an above-average 1,600 ANSI lumen brightness which first debuted in its predecessor, handy for countering ambient lighting in less ideal environments.

Advanced 3LCD technology
At the heart of the EMP-TW700 is Epson's world-leading 3LCD technology. This projection system uses three individual LCD panels to give form to images with silky smooth movement and fresh, natural colours.

Epson Cinema Filter

In its adjustment of the three primary colours (Red, Green and Blue), the new generation Epson Cinema Filter achieves even finer adjustment and balance precision than with earlier models. The result - the Epson

High contrast ratio
Brightness and colour are only two of the vital characteristics of a projector; and the difference between a good and a great projector. In order to achieve maximum image display quality, a high contrast ratio is absolutely essential. With the Epson EMP-TW700 that quality is
delivered by means of a massive 10,000 to 1 contrast ratio.
One of the technological advances that make such a high contrast ratio possible is the Auto Iris Function; a powerful function that controls lamp brightness levels 60 times every second. When the projector is displaying a light scene the iris is opened, allowing more light to pass through to LCD panels resulting in a brighter image. For dark scenes, the iris opening is reduced, delivering richer blacks than are possible under less advanced systems.
Flexible placement
With exceptional horizontal and vertical lens shift capabilities, the Epson EMP-TW700 can be positioned well off-centre - up to two screen widths laterally and three screens vertically - without distorting the screen shape or in any way compromising the image quality. It's just another example of how Epson home cinema projectors have been designed specifically for the home cinema experience.
Light-efficient lamp technology - E-TORL
One of the crucial factors in the EMP-TW700's capability of providing up to 1600 ANSI lumens in dynamic mode is the incredibly efficient E-TORL (Epson Twin Optimised Reflection Lamp) technology. Designed to minimise light leakage - a primary cause of lamp inefficiency - and minimise light diffraction, E-TORL lamps are so small and efficient as to be well ahead of their time.
