3 Panel LCD technology is used for superior performance in immense colour saturation, coupled with the new Advanced Iris Auto Function to deliver amazing Contrast of up to 10,000:1. Horizontal and Vertical Lens Shift allows the HS60 to be discreetly placed to one side, and still projects a neat image without loss of resolution, freeing up your coffee table for popcorn and drinks! In conjunction with an optional ceiling mount, this function can also be used to overcome any existing fittings in the centre of the ceiling space.

In terms of image reproduction and colour saturation, video projectors have come a long way in a relatively short time - and, again, Sony has led the technological charge. Sony's home cinema video projectors utilise state-of-the-art 3-Panel LCD technology. This allows LINEAR COLOUR imaging - in other words, red, green and blue colours are produced independently and can therefore be displayed constantly. The result is more vivid colours and better control over contrast and brightness.
3-Panel LCD projectors are far more effective than single-chip projectors that rely on a spinning colour wheel. The 3-Panel LCD utilises continuous separate colour light paths of red, green and blue, resulting in superior colour saturation and reduced image flicker.
Cinema Black Mode
Cinema Black Mode is a feature of Sony's range of Home Cinema projectors. It allows the user to adjust the lamp drive wattage to either 'normal' or Cinema Black Mode to suit the ambient light conditions. Cinema Black Mode increases blackness and is ideal for viewing film sources.
Side Shot
Sony’s VPLHS3 features handy Side Shot technology. This image compensation feature allows the projector to be positioned off-centre, and the user can adjust the horizontal and vertical image planes to ‘square up’ the picture. The VPLHS60 uses a similar yet more superior function, Lens Shift, which allows the user even greater flexibility for projector placement.
Brightness and Contrast
The ANSI lumens measurement system is the standard for calculating light output - or brightness - from a projector source. An average figure is derived by measuring brightness at nine different points on the viewing surface. The higher the ANSI lumens figure, the brighter the on-screen image.
Contrast ratio is the measure of the difference of light from full white to full black while the projector is operating. The greater the contrast ratio, the brighter the images will appear and detail becomes more discernible. All Sony projector specifications are measured using the ANSI standard.
